Cor­ing clo­sure leads to play in Paeroa

Round one of Cham­pi­onship pen­nants be­gan on March 5.

Di­vi­sion one team of Pam Wright, Sue Han­cock, Shee­lah Lamb, and Chris­tine McKen­zie played Cam­bridge at home and found the go­ing tough. They don’t ex­pect their op­po­si­tion to get any eas­ier be­ing in the top di­vi­sion.

Di­vi­sion 2 team of Cather­ine Brown, Ar­lene Joe, Donna Gaskell, and Faye Matthews out­classed their op­po­si­tion Wait­omo, to start their sea­son with good points. With the lo­cal course closed for cor­ing on Tues­day, March 7, 15 ladies ven­tured to Paeroa for a fun golf­ing day.

Diane Rom­ley scored an im­pres­sive 45 sta­ble­fords, with her round de­scribed by team mates as ‘‘en­ter­tain­ing’’. Heavy rain pre­vented any play on Satur­day, March 11.

Tues­day, March 13, brought out 28 starters. Open­ing match­play win­ners in the ring cup were Lucy Troth, Mar­garet Hales, Ruth Tay­lor and Maria Walsh. For oth­ers there was a scram­ble. Lynne Arts was the best with 39 fol­lowed by Cather­ine Brown, Jane Wil­son and Chris­tine McKen­zie with 37.

Lynne Arts was the O Del Emz voucher win­ner. Cather­ine Brown had a two on num­ber 11. Nine ladies par­tic­i­pated in a scram­ble for the 9-hole golfers. Nicky Telford scored very well with 23 points. Run­ner Up was Jan Mul­lane with 21.
