Coring closure leads to play in Paeroa
Round one of Championship pennants began on March 5.
Division one team of Pam Wright, Sue Hancock, Sheelah Lamb, and Christine McKenzie played Cambridge at home and found the going tough. They don’t expect their opposition to get any easier being in the top division.
Division 2 team of Catherine Brown, Arlene Joe, Donna Gaskell, and Faye Matthews outclassed their opposition Waitomo, to start their season with good points. With the local course closed for coring on Tuesday, March 7, 15 ladies ventured to Paeroa for a fun golfing day.
Diane Romley scored an impressive 45 stablefords, with her round described by team mates as ‘‘entertaining’’. Heavy rain prevented any play on Saturday, March 11.
Tuesday, March 13, brought out 28 starters. Opening matchplay winners in the ring cup were Lucy Troth, Margaret Hales, Ruth Taylor and Maria Walsh. For others there was a scramble. Lynne Arts was the best with 39 followed by Catherine Brown, Jane Wilson and Christine McKenzie with 37.
Lynne Arts was the O Del Emz voucher winner. Catherine Brown had a two on number 11. Nine ladies participated in a scramble for the 9-hole golfers. Nicky Telford scored very well with 23 points. Runner Up was Jan Mullane with 21.
