Visitors manage to out play Hinuera
Hinuera’s A rugby side went down to a physical visiting side, Taupiri.
To offset this, the Gold and Blacks attempted to play the game at pace.
Benji Olesen latched on to a loose pass, chip kicked into open territory for a fast following Levi Henare to pounce upon and score.
Olesen converted, Hinuera 7-0 after two minutes.
The locals’ cause was further helped when bustling Taupiri into numerous errors.
Knock-ons, forward passes, crooked line-out throws were a constant.
The game was a terrible stopstart mess with the visitors guilty of indiscretions by the bucket load.
One area that did have superiority was at scrum time, with several occasions where Taupiri pushed Hinuera’s scrum backwards.
Despite a heavy penalty count against them, Taupiri gained the ultimate revenge with a penalty try to draw level at 7-all.
Two minutes of play inside Hinuera territory resulted in red faces for the locals.
Awarded a penalty, Taupiri took a tap kick, regained the ball and raced in for a try, 14 - 7 to Taupiri.
The rest of the spell was strewn with penalties against the visitors.
One of these was goaled by Jared McNaughton, 14-10, Taupiri.
The departure of Olesen to injury disrupted Hinuera’s backline which lacked cohesion.
Taupiri scored a late converted try to deny the hosts a bonus point.
Jason Brady was player of the day, Dillon Leuthard earned two points, Hadliegh May one point. Hinuera Bs won a tight 12-10. Both teams have the bye next week.
