Matamata-Piako District Council wants to know if residents think shops in the district should be able to open on Easter Sunday. This is one of a number of items the council is seeking public feedback on until April 26. Central government gave the council the power to determine if shops should be able to open on Easter Sunday. It doesn’t mean they have to open, but gives them the option if they choose to - although employees cannot be forced to work Easter Sunday even if the shop is open.
