In two weeks Hazel Logan ( nee Wallace) will receive a letter for Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for her 100th birthday.

But on Saturday she attended a birthday celebration of a different kind.

Hazel held the honour of being the oldest former student at the Hinuera School 125th year anniversary reunion.

The reunion was the first time Hazel had returned to the school since she left.

‘‘It’s a thrill to be here,’’ she says.

‘‘It’s been really amazing and emotional.

‘‘Everything has grown much since I was here.

‘‘I think there was only one classroom then.’’

The school and community celebrated the reunion with a wine and cheese evening on Friday night.

Marie Hicks, secretary for the 125th celebration says the committee, teachers and school students have had a great time planning the reunion.

‘‘The students excited,’’ she said.

‘‘What made it so great and emotional for past students is the current students wrote letters for the registration packs. were so

‘‘Some people have written letters back students. ‘‘It was such a great idea. ‘‘I love history and knowing that people were here learning over 100 years ago, and that those students were coming, it’s very sentimental.’’

Over 250 people attended the reunion over both days. already to the
