Cast of the up and coming musical youth show, will soon descend on the main stage.

Dracula Rock features a cast of 30 of our community’s 7-14 year olds. It opens May 6-14 at the Matamata Musical Theatre.

The comical play, directed by Sharon Butterworth, is about Dracula and his cohorts rising from the underworld, into Bedford Park, where they hope to become part of society.

It features Shirley Holmes - descendant of Dr Holmes, Dr Watson and even Quasimodo.

‘‘Dracula has great characters and I think people will really enjoy it,’’ says Butterworth.

What is particularly exciting for the cast, is the show has been entered into the Zony Awards.

The awards recognise production and performance excellence from musical theatre. This is the first time a Matamata youth show has been entered. The cast and crew have been busy preparing since late last year.

The show features over 20 songs, and covers a wide genre of music.

Abba, Rolling Stones, Queen and even some rap are among the musical delights offered up to the audience.
