Matamata College is a year into its work preparing for its centenary which it plans for March 2018. That’s 100 years of delivering education to the community and is certainly something work celebrating. The college is appealing for any uniforms, school books, trophies or other memorabilia which it might be able to show for the special event next year. Over the next 12 months we’re aiming to present a series of stories talking to former students of the college, looking at their time at the school and how it’s shaped their career and family life. We’re keen to hear suggestions you might have for the series. This week we also spoke to the college’s head boy, Kaleb Reid, about his work with the newly-formed MatamataPiako Youth Volunteer Ambassadors group. They plan a number of initiatives for young people in the district and the first is to host speaker Mike King, who will present at the district’s three colleges and at a community meeting in Matamata.
