Matamata-Piako District Council has agreed to approve the installation of double-glazed joinery to the new MatamataPiako Civic and Memorial Centre. The public facility is under construction on Tainui St. The double-glazed addition will come at a cost of $58,763, according to minutes from the council meeting where the decision was made to approve the extra spending. Councillors also agreed to go ahead with an assessment of options to install solar panels as another extra item for the centre. The analysis and redesign to accommodate the panels would cost about $8000. The current best estimate for actually installing the solar panels was $60,000, but the council has only approved the assessment of options at this point. The additions aim to reduce operating costs of the centre, by making energy savings. The total project budget for the new centre was $6,923,787, including contingencies. The council agreed to fund the additions to the centre by way of a loan.
