Mata­mata-Pi­ako District Coun­cil has agreed to ap­prove the in­stal­la­tion of dou­ble-glazed join­ery to the new Mata­mataPi­ako Civic and Me­mo­rial Cen­tre. The pub­lic fa­cil­ity is un­der con­struc­tion on Tainui St. The dou­ble-glazed ad­di­tion will come at a cost of $58,763, ac­cord­ing to min­utes from the coun­cil meet­ing where the de­ci­sion was made to ap­prove the ex­tra spend­ing. Coun­cil­lors also agreed to go ahead with an as­sess­ment of op­tions to in­stall so­lar pan­els as an­other ex­tra item for the cen­tre. The anal­y­sis and re­design to ac­com­mo­date the pan­els would cost about $8000. The cur­rent best es­ti­mate for ac­tu­ally in­stalling the so­lar pan­els was $60,000, but the coun­cil has only ap­proved the as­sess­ment of op­tions at this point. The ad­di­tions aim to re­duce op­er­at­ing costs of the cen­tre, by mak­ing en­ergy sav­ings. The to­tal project bud­get for the new cen­tre was $6,923,787, in­clud­ing con­tin­gen­cies. The coun­cil agreed to fund the ad­di­tions to the cen­tre by way of a loan.
