Memorial trophy tournament

Matamata Chronicle - - Sport - GOLF

The golfing highlight of the year is again the Ruth Middleton Memorial Tournament to be played this weekend at the Matamata Golf Course.

Headlining the field is three times Champion Chantelle Cassidy who held the title in 2013, 2014 and 2015.

Last year’s Champion Munchin Keh now plays professional golf in China.

There will be tough compe- tition over the 54 hole tournament with 12 players on scratch or better handicap.

A handful of girls who are on holiday from their US Universities are part of the field.

In all, 81 players will tee off on Saturday at 8 am, shotgun start.

Matamata has a strong contingent led by Pam Wright on a 5 handicap.

Eleven Matamata players are in the field.

The Waikato Golf Association use this event as a trial for rep- resentative honours. The triallists are all taking part.

Once again New Zealand Golf have given the honour to Matamata of hosting the NZ Foursomes event over 36 holes on Friday, July 7.

A tremendous field of New Zealand’s top young golfers are all participating.

The three top combinations are all representing the Auckland and North Harbour Unions.

Spectators will get to view outstanding golf on all three days. 13
