Political candidates are upping their efforts as we move closer to the general election on September 23. The Waikato electorate will be an interesting contest with incumbent Lindsay Tisch deciding not to stand again and move on to other things in his life. National has put forward Tim van de Molen to retain the seat for the party while Labour has asked lawyer Brooke Loader to contest the electorate. Tim officially launched his campaign recently. The Green Party has put forward former editor Philippa Stevenson who recently held a public meeting to hear author Gordon McLaunchlan talk about why he’s backing the party. New Zealand First is also contesting the electorate and has put forward Stuart Husband, a Waikato regional councillor. More candidates for minor parties are likely to come forward over the coming weeks. All candidates must have submitted their nomination by August 29. Overseas voting begins on September 6.
