Garry stands as Lions president
After 30 years as a Matamata Lion, Garry Stanley now holds the position of club president.
Stanley, a former long standing Matamata-Piako district councillor, has taken over the role from immediate past president David Harris.
In his president’s message on the club bulletin, Stanley said he had ‘‘big boots to fill’’.
‘‘I am fortunate to be following in the footsteps of presidents of our Lions Club who have set a great precedents.
‘‘If I follow their example, we can’t go wrong.
‘‘It is an honour and a privilege to be president of the Lions Club of Matamata.’’
Stanley applauded Harris who stepped up into the role of president following the resignation of the club president Alex Johnson.
‘‘Dave’s leadership of the board and the club has been excellent and I’m sure that we all appreciate his efforts on behalf of the club.’’
He commended board members and the committee for their involvement in crucial positions which he said ensure the success of the club.
‘‘We have an excellent board for the coming year.’’
