Grafts needed for project

Matamata Chronicle - - Your Local News - REXINE HAWES

Do you have a heritage fruit tree on your property?

If so, a graft from that tree could be part of a project to grow them around the town.

This is part of the Matamata Bee Fruitful project, spearheaded by Transition Matamata.

It is looking for graftings from plum, peach, apple and pear trees, which give the best results as well as table grape vine and feijoa.

The project would especially like grafts from heritage trees which have been very fruitful in the past.

Transition Matamata member Colin Kemplen says grafts need to be collected during winter.

‘‘Now is the time to collect scion wood, the bit that is grafted onto the rootstock.’’
