FROM THE NEWS DESK
Two key columns from leaders in our community feature in this week’s Chronicle. The first is from one of the Matamata ward councillors for the MatamataPiako District Council, James Sainsbury (page 6). James leads on from last week’s columnist Gord Stewart, hitting on topics around recycling and better waste management for the district. He speaks about the value of sorting waste, determining which can be recycled and which may not. He also goes over the savings which could be made by diverting waste such as glass, tin cans, plastics and paper. And over the next few weeks we will be helping to promote the Kiwi Bottle Drive and a special campaign to encourage a neighbouring MPto support it. From civic matters to sport. Sport Waikato’s Lou Beer talks about the value of supporting those who volunteer their time to be referees and coaches. She points out winter sports are heading towards semifinals and finals now, when the work of volunteers in sport becomes even more valuable. We hope you enjoy this week’s paper.
