Coun­cil loses cat fight

A re­mit dis­cussing the na­tional leg­is­la­tion to man­age cats was pre­sented at the Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment New Zealand AGM.

Matamata-Pi­ako District Coun­cil voted against the leg­is­la­tion, but lost with a 51 per cent vote in favour.

The re­mit, pro­posed by Dunedin City Coun­cil, asked to lobby the Gov­ern­ment to ap­prove the fi­nal ver­sion of the Na­tional Cat Man­age­ment strat­egy, which recog­nises the im­por­tance of com­pan­ion cats and indige­nous wildlife.
