FROM THE NEWS DESK
The debate over the future of Headon Stadium continues to gain momentum, with people on our Neighbourly platform taking the chance to have their say. It’s obvious people want more information on who uses the stadium and who does not use it any more, and why they don’t use it. Netball games, under the Thames Valley league, were moved to Te Aroha this season because of concerns about the state of the stadium. Other groups continues to use it though, including up-coming games for futsal [Indoor football] competitions. Matamata-Piako Mayor Jan Barnes has asked for the community to have its say on the matter and as you will read on our Conversations page this week, people have a lot of questions they want raised. Staying with sport, reporter Rexine Hawes attended the annual Matamata-Piako Sports Awards recently, organised by Sport Waikato. You would have read her front page story on Toka Natua and Michelle Montague, and we will profile more award winners over the coming weeks.
