The grand old es­tate on the hill got a much-needed up­date this year when mil­len­nial slashie chef/writer/ac­tor Sam Man­ner­ing teamed up with the boys from Cer­e­mony (Con­nor Nestor and Charles Wil­liams) and took over the kitchen at Pah Homestead. They run it, clad in linen aprons, with ca­sual pre­ci­sion. The menu, sourced lo­cally, changes sea­son­ally with new takes on old trads like ox­tail in win­ter and lamb con­fit in spring. Bless­edly, home-made crum­pets are a con­stant. Cof­fee is Flight but there’s some­thing about be­ing seated out on the ve­randa that calls for a deep glass from the wine list, the per­fect prep for view­ing the art gallery in­side.
