THE TABLE EXPLAINED OUR DATA

Data sourced from the Ministry of Education (educationcounts.govt.nz), New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and schools. Not all 2016 data was available. Where unavailable, 2015 data has been reported. Some percentages have been rounded.

RANKINGS

We’ve ranked the Top 25 schools for both University Entrance pass rates and NCEA (or equivalent) pass rates.

TOP NCEA PASS RATES

The top rankings for NCEA (or equivalent) pass rates are based on the % of school leavers in 2016 and the highest NCEA qualification (or equivalent) they gained. % shown is those who left with the respective qualification as indicated at the top of the table.

Naturally the ranking favours schools that had a higher % of school leavers who gained higher qualifications.

A good NCEA pass rate indicates the school focuses on students gaining the highest qualification they can.

TOP UE PASS RATES

The top rankings for UE pass rates are based on the weighted average (W.A.) of 2012-2016 University Entrance pass rates, with the weighting favouring more recent results. UE pass rates are the % of all school leavers in each given year who gained UE.

Although the majority of school leavers will not attend university, a good UE pass rate indicates that a school focuses on academic achievement across all students.

Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate senior school and Ormiston Senior College are too new to have 2012 data.
