ASSOCIATE EDITORS’ LETTER

Miss FQ - - Contents -

Back in 2013, when a 16-year-old Lorde released her debut album, Pure Heroine, she couldn’t have known that it would go multi-platinum in all major music markets, win two Grammy awards, skyrocket her to global fame and earn her the adoration of a nation who would forevermore speak about her in the same breath as homegrown heroes Sir Edmund Hillary, Sir Peter Jackson and Richie Mccaw.

An incredible feat for sure, one imagines such a successful start might also be a bit of a cross to bear — the expectation to follow through with an equally (if not more) exceptional body of work immense. But now 20 years old and with less than a month to go before the release of her sophomore album, Lorde looks poised for something great. Seriously, if teaser single ‘Green Light’ is anything to go by (on repeat at Miss FQ HQ since March), Melodrama will. Be. Epic. In the meantime, we enjoyed tracking the highlights of Lorde’s career to date on page 26.

Speaking of follow-ups, we were really feeling the pressure whilst putting together this issue of Miss FQ. The response to our launch issue absolutely floored us (turn to page 14 to see some of our fave ’grams and messages — you guys are so extra and we love it). Still, we were absolutely freaking out that we’d never be able to out-do ourselves.

As it happens though, we think we may have. It’s not really down to us, of course. It’s the incredible individuals that made filling these pages so easy (and editing them down so very, very hard). Since day one, Miss FQ has been about celebrating supremely talented, brave and inspiring women (and men), doing incredible things on the national and international stage. This issue, we were fortunate enough to work with perhaps our most mind-blowing lot of contributors yet. We hope you enjoy their stories and work as much as us.

And finally, a super exciting announcement. We know how Insta-obsessed you all are and how much you love seeing Kiwi bloggers, vloggers and ’grammers killing it on social media. That’s why we are launching the first ever Miss FQ Colgate Optic White® Influencer Awards. So cool, right?! From July, we’ll be taking your nominations. We’ll then select category finalists and voting will begin in August, giving you two weeks to have your say on who deserves to come out on top. Keep an eye on Missfq.co.nz for further key dates and details.

Until then, happy reading!
