WHO NEEDS CAMERA

At New Zealand Fashion Week 2017, Samsung challenged fashion blogger Aki Ang of The Sleek Avenue to leave her DSLR camera at home and use only the new Samsung Galaxy Note8 as her creative tool.

That moment when you walk into the photographers’ pit with your photographer pass and everyone’s wondering where your camera is… That’s the moment Aki Ang had at New Zealand Fashion Week 2017 when she brought the new Samsung Galaxy Note8 smartphone to shoot the catwalk — instead of her trusty DSLR camera.

As creator of fashion inspiration source The Sleek Avenue, Aki has a genius for style and, as her boldly sophisticated aesthetic attests, she’s not afraid to try something new. So when Samsung suggested she shoot NZFW shows with the new Galaxy Note8, she put together an insanely awesome outfit, slipped the Note8 in Orchid Grey into one of her famously high-end purses and headed to Auckland’s ANZ Viaduct Events Centre.

With its dual lens camera, Infinity Display for better multi-tasking and fastcharging technology, the Note8 was the perfect accessory for Aki to capture all the action at the shows. Great camera stability is important for Aki, and both cameras on the Note8 have optical image stabilisation, so you get steady shots even when zoomed in. “I used the Note8 Pro mode to zoom in on the catwalk, which made capturing moving models easier,” explains Aki. Afterwards, she used the cool Samsung S Pen to draw on the images, adding credits and comments.

“An extra delicious thing about taking the Note8 to NZFW was that I didn’t need to bring a massive bag and giant camera that would ruin my outfit,” she laughs.

Favourite moments: Fashion blogger Aki Ang shot these NZFW images using the Samsung Galaxy Note8 smartphone and created the illustrations using the Samsung S Pen that lets you draw your own emojis, make animated GIFS and write messages on photos. Fun!
