Keeping the Euros on the road

Motor Equipment News - - EUROPEAN SERVICING -

Key supply markets for new and used light duty vehicles into New Zealand are Asia (primarily Japan) and Europe. These markets accounted for 77 percent and 20 percent respectively of the record 285,000 new and used vehicles imported into New Zealand in 2015, on the back of relatively strong economic conditions.

Most of the European imports have tended to be from those companies which had already established a strong foothold in the NZ market pre-1980, as well as premium European brands.

However, for many other brands, such as Volkswagen, Skoda, Peugeot, Renault, Volvo, it has been a long slog to establish themselves in this extremely competitive new car market.

However, used European cars in particular have continued to flow into New Zealand, many of them in fact imported from Japan, and with them has come the need for service and repairs outside the normal franchised dealer networks.

In this feature we look at some of those companies which specialise in European vehicles.
