Hire vs Buy

TSalma Rayan:

o buy or rent is a question faced by couples buying a home, land or car … and many brides are now facing the same dilemma when it comes to their dress. As with property, there are pros and cons to both buying and renting, or hiring, as we prefer to call it. Some brides prefer to have a dress to reminisce over for years to come, and the notion of passing their dress down to the next generation is all too romantic. Hiring a dress, on the other hand, is often the less expensive option and avoids the need for storage space and care required. We sourced the opinions of two brides who’d recently hired gowns. If hiring is an option for you, simply contact Joan or Belinda on 09 2724629 to discuss further or to set up an appointment. They will happily guide you through their wide selection of styles. Alternatively feel free to visit their website and follow them on Facebook.

Bridal Brilliance offers a hire service for the discerning bride. www.bridalbrilliance.co.nz “Personally, I had no attachment to the idea of a wedding dress, nor did I deem it a necessary item to keep long after the wedding. Besides, I am hopeful that it be a dress that I will only ever wear once. As such, I decided to take the rent route and I have no regrets whatsoever. The dress cost half the price to rent than to buy, and Bridal Brilliance had a dedicated and very skilled seamstress to get your dress exceptionally fitted for you, adding that personal touch of buying your own.

“After the wedding day, which went smooth as butter, I returned the dress and never had to deal with all the hassle of storing a wedding dress. Not to mention the fact that I saved a pretty penny, deeming me ‘awesome’ by my happy husband. Renting can be the ideal option if you’re tight on space, cash or both, which many of us are today. After all it is the memories, tears and laughter that are most remembered on your special day.”

Nicole Collins:

“I married my lovely husband on the 1st June 2012 - our 7 year anniversary - in a beautiful Nicolina dress hired from Bridal Brilliance in Auckland.

“I had heard amazing things about Bridal Brilliance from a number of ladies on a wedding forum I was using, so decided to make an appointment. It was the best decision I ever made. Joan and Belinda were so helpful and it was here I found the most amazing dress that did not even compare to the many others I had tried on.

“I had always intended on purchasing my wedding dress but was on quite a tight budget. When I first visited Bridal Brilliance I was intending to buy but soon realised that my dream dress was unfortunately out of my price range. Joan was so helpful in choosing my dress and 100% honest without being too harsh if a dress did not suit me. I really appreciated her honesty. The dress I ended up hiring was picked out for me by Joan.

“At first I found it a little strange to be hiring a wedding dress. After thinking about it for while, I quite liked the idea of having a beautiful dress to wear on my wedding day that I otherwise would not have been able to afford … and the idea that many other brides will get the chance to wear the same beautiful dress on their special day. Hiring a wedding dress also meant I didn’t have the hassle and cost of getting the dress dry-cleaned and stored properly. I know of so many people that spend so much money on their wedding dresses to have them ruined because they have not being cleaned and stored properly.

“The only reason I had planned on buying a wedding dress was because that was what everyone did ... but I am so happy I choose to hire in the end and do not regret it one bit. My photographer knew I was hiring my dress so she made sure to take some amazing photos of the dress and all the details of it for me to remember it by. I just want to take this opportunity to thank Joan and Belinda for all their help. Your shop is amazing with such a beautiful selection of dresses and accessories!”
