Bridal Shower High Tea

My Wedding - - WEDDING PLANNER | DIARIES - By Lisa Hill

Bridal Shower High Teas are becoming increasingly popular. Since the early ninetieth century, High Tea has seen ladies catching up to sip tea and nibble sandwiches in the afternoon. More recently, there has been an increase in the number of venues offering High Tea, and hens are using them as a more sociable gathering for a bridal shower, allowing mothers, grandmothers and aunts to share in the prewedding celebrations. I have picked four of my favourites to share with you and they come with my personal recommendations.

Cornwall Park Restaurant

This iconic Auckland Restaurant has been serving high tea on their premises since the early 1900's. Sharing tea in this historic location is a genuine treat and one I highly recommend. A traditional three-tier stand of eleven delicacies features savouries, petite sandwiches and sweets. My favourite is definitely the miniature lemon meringue pies - they are divine. A gluten free option is available, as is the opportunity to upgrade to the Sparkling High Tea that includes a glass of bubbles. An extensive selection of loose-leaf teas, both herbal and fruit infused, is on offer along with great tasting coffee. Served Monday to Sunday www.cornwallparkrestaurant.co.nz

Museum Hotel, Wellington

High Teas served at the Museum Hotel are nothing short of exceptional. Experience the glamour of their “high tea” and treat yourself to an afternoon of indulgence at Hippopotamus Restaurant. Louis Sergeant, a French born and trained pastry chef, lovingly creates a beautifully presented selection of carefully hand-crafted sweet and savoury amuse-bouches, mini-sandwiches and miniardises for you to relish, served with a selection of gourmet Dilmah teas or espresso coffee. For an extra special treat, add a decadent cocktail or glass of Louis Roederer Champagne. Served Wednesday to Sunday www.museumhotel.co.nz

The Vintage High Tea

For a truly unique experience, why not stay at home and invite the girls over for afternoon tea. The Vintage Table and Bluebells Cakery offer a delicious and elegant afternoon tea delivered with finger sandwiches, savoury tartlets, freshly baked scones, petite cupcakes and other sweat treats. Served on tiered traditional vintage cake stands with teacups, saucers, side plates and teaspoons. They deliver, set up and collect at the end of your event. www.thevintagetable.co.nz www.bluebellscakery.co.nz

Stamford Plaza, Auckland

Currently this is a traditional English affair, serving scones with lashings of fresh cream, delicate club sandwiches and a selection of decadent sweets accompanied by a selection of freshly brewed tea or coffee. On Sundays, be accompanied by the tinkling of the grand piano keys, or visit on a Saturday to enjoy the string quartet. Add bubbly for a few extra dollars. And watch this space – they're soon to launch a quintessential Kiwi high tea! Served Monday to Sunday www.stamford.com.au/spak
