My Wedding - - CONTENTS -

Destination weddings are becoming more and more popular with Kiwi couples. No longer is a romantic island wedding the domain of celebrities! For some, it's the unpredictable weather locally that spurs the decision; for others it's the thought of a honeymoon and wedding in one location; and for a few it's merely the preference of “eloping” and escaping the family's desire for a massive 200-person affair. Spend your special day with those who really mean something to you - you can always throw a bigger, more casual bash when you get home for those who can't make it, won't make it or are merely casual friends.

We are blessed with beautiful neighbouring islands that offer exquisite locations for weddings and honeymoons … the South Pacific is fabled the world over and couples from around the globe venture to Rarotonga, Fiji, Vanuatu, Hawaii, Tahiti, New Caledonia and Samoa. For us, it's a short plane trip to paradise! It is reported that nearly 1,000 Kiwis have tied the knot in Rarotonga since 2010 and resorts such as the Edgewater have hosted over 100 weddings a year!

A few words of advice if you're planning a destination wedding – always check legal requirements, and give your intended guests plenty of notice as many will have to save up the money or book their annual leave.

A destination wedding can save on your budget – firstly by keeping the numbers down and secondly because the package deals on offer can be quite extraordinary. In this first look at island weddings, we feature the Cook Islands of Rarotonga and Aitutaki, Samoa and Vanuatu, as well as a vow renewal on Maui.
