I was once de­layed for 12 hours (in­cre­men­tally, so I was never able to leave the air­port) and couldn’t find any­where that sold nap­pies. I ended up stalk­ing peo­ple with chil­dren the same age un­til I found some­one with a spare! – Brittany Bray

> A pos­i­tive at­ti­tude is really im­por­tant. I was ner­vous the first time I had a long-haul flight on my own with my two young boys. I re­alised that I was talk­ing to peo­ple about th­ese wor­ries in front of the kids, so I stopped. In­stead, I just said that I was look­ing for­ward to it. Kids can sense your ap­pre­hen­sion but if they know you are re­laxed, they are more likely to be re­laxed, too. – Carolyn Hen­son
