Pupils rehearsing purler of a show

Napier Courier - - NEWS -

Porritt Primary School has been hard at work rehearsing for their school production, The Sheriff of Plain and Purl.

This is a comedy incorporating the whole school — 350 children — telling the hilarious musical story of Pa Jinglebob who loves to knit, his family, a scaredy-cat mayor and the nasty Not-So-Nice-Nellie with her bandits, who tries to ban knitting and take over the town, says deputy principal and show director Sonya Aifai.

Sonya says the children have been rehearsing most of the term for the show, which features all ages of children, and the leads have given up their lunchtimes, juggled sports practices and worked hard to try something many of them have never done before.

“It’s all about exposing children to something they may never get the chance to try unless they join a theatre group themselves. And what I am most proud of are the kids who have come out of their comfort zone to have a go.”

This production is something kids can be proud of, Sonya says. ■ The Sheriff of Plain and Purl, Napier Municipal Theatre, Thursday, September 27, 1.15pm and 6.30pm. Tickets through Ticketek.
