Service takes care of dogs’ dinner

Napier Courier - - NEWS - BY LINDA HALL

A discussion between best friends about man’s best friend has resulted in a nationwide dog food delivery service. Think My Food Bag for canines.

Annika Bennett and Charlotte Marshall, who were both born and bred in Hawke’s Bay and have been friends forever (their parents were friends), came up with the idea after discussing how they had forgotten to get the dog food once again.

“Although this business is about our dogs, the main aim is to help owners release a bit of stress from their life,” Annika says.

“People today are time poor. I don’t know how many times I’ve rushed around getting food for everyone and then got home and found the dog had no food.

“We then end up feeding them something we probably shouldn’t like cat food or rice,” she says.

“I’ve talked to many dog owners who have done the same thing. So when Charlotte and I talked about it we asked ourselves why there wasn’t a My Food Bag for dogs.”

After much talk, then a load of research, Paw Paw was launched on September 8 in Auckland with “dog yoga”.

“It went really well and the first lot of deliveries went out all over the country last week.”

While Annika has recently moved back to Hawke’s Bay, Charlotte is based in Auckland so all Auckland orders are sent from there while the rest of the country’s orders are dispatched from Te Awanga where Annika lives.

Annika recently established herself in a new career as an interior designer. Before that she managed artists, photographers and designers globally from her long-term base in the UK.

She lived in London for more than two decades, managing her own artist agency for much of that time, before choosing to return to New Zealand in 2011.

In recent times Annika was owner/curator at Art + Enterprise Gallery in Napier, and separately acted as an independent consultant to artists, galleries and designers, bettering their practice management.

Both Annika and Charlotte are busy working mothers who love their dogs.

“They are part of the family and just as it’s important to feed ourselves and our children well, it’s also important that we feed our pets well. You put in what you get back really. Well fed pets live a longer and healthier life.”

Delivered fortnightly, the Paw Paw box contains all a dog’s nutritional food needs for 14 days. With 18 boxes catering to puppies, seniors, gourmet to gluten-free on offer, dog owners can order exactly what they require to ensure their pet maintains a balanced, super healthy lifestyle.

Annika says they are thrilled with the response.

“The puppy boxes have been particularly popular.”
