Ne­olib­eral fail­ure

It is good to see (September 3) that Jacinda Ardern un­der­stands that ne­olib­er­al­ism has failed.

Jim Bol­ger, once a Na­tional Party PM, al­ready knows this. PM Bill English shows his ig­no­rance of the ide­ol­ogy and still clings to it. There is a grow­ing de­pres­sion of econ­o­mists who re­alise the fail­ures of this nox­ious the­ory.

If all econ­o­mists were sci­en­tists, the fail­ure of this the­ory would lead to its dump­ing and search for a new the­ory that might ben­e­fit all people rather than just a few.

Dereg­u­la­tion, pri­vati­sa­tion, and re­duc­ing gov­ern­ment sup­port for people in­stead of just care for busi­ness have shown that all fea­tures of the ne­olib­eral the­ory fail the people.

It would be good if all politi­cians would think about how to re­verse the fail­ings of the ne­olib­eral ab­sur­dity. Fail­ing a
