NZ Army ready to roll into Nelson

- TIM O'CONNELL

The New Zealand Army will face more than parking battles when it descends on Nelson city for a month-long exercise next week.

The army will be conducting a training exercise throughout the Nelson area starting on Monday and going through until March 23. Areas will include the CBD and suburbs.

The exercise will involve the movement of military vehicles and soldiers with weapons on main and rural roadways as well as local buildings during the day and night.

Troops and vehicles may also be moving in other locations close to the exercise area at various times.

The exercise comes three months after the biennial Southern Katipo military exercise which involved 3000 people from 13 countries in scenario-based training around the top of the south.

As well as patrol-based tasks and battle scenarios, personnel will also take part in lectures and workshops during the exercise programme.
