Howden’s V12 BRM

New Zealand Classic Car - - Feature Car 1956 Lotus Eleven -

For Howden Ganley, this BRM P180 was a significant car, and one that he raced at Monaco in 1972. As well as an ex-ganley Maki F1 Cosworth, the P180 (now owned by world-renowned enthusiast and preparation specialist, ‘Robs’ Lamplough) is now in New Zealand ahead of the Gulf Motor Festival. The BRM is demonstrated regularly on the track — Howden having also driven the car at events such as the Monaco Historic Festival — and is still resplendent in its original Marlboro colours, as well as running the original V12 engine. Lamplough will race the car in the Festival’s F5000 field, and hopefully Howden will be tempted to turn back the clock and cut a few laps of Hampton Downs in the fabulous piece of history. These V12s really have to be heard to be believed, and this could be one of three or even four BRMS that may grace the North Waikato track in January.
