Got a vehicle in need of restoration? There’s one place that stands head and shoulders above the rest Before After
Age, abuse, and general wear and tear hit older cars hard. As classic vehicle owners and enthusiasts, we all know only too well the bane of wear, pushing our vehicles closer to the major overhaul that gets ever harder to justify deferring. It may just be a ‘simple’ rust repair, or a full-on ground-up rebuild with every last nut, bolt, and washer replaced — if it’s something you do not wish to tackle yourself, you want the job to go to the best people for it.
Christchurch-based Rustorations Ltd is fully equipped to perform restoration work of all levels, be it sprucing up a tired daily driver, through to a show-quality build.
Steve and Sharon Hartendorf are the faces behind Rustorations, and between them their tight-knit team of six has over 120 years’ worth of industry experience. Steve started out panel beating before moving into the vehicle restoration industry. He has that rare quality in people of being able to appreciate all cars — he doesn’t have favourites, but can pick out the qualities in them all. With over 30 years’ industry experience, and 20 years spent in vehicle restoration, he knows what he is doing. He started Rustorations in 1999, and from its humble beginnings the company has steadily grown as customers have entrusted the team with all types of restoration work.
Rustorations’ team covers a wide and varied skill-set dealing with most facets of vehicle restoration, including experience in panel beating, panel fabrication, spray painting and mechanical engineering, as well as fitting and turning. All of them retain that old-school ability to hand-craft parts — in an era when off-theshelf replacement parts are becoming more and more common, it’s something of a relief to know that there still are skilled fabricators out there who have the ability to create from scratch what can’t be bought.
Amongst the many services its staff provide, Rustorations is also a certification specialist, capable of handling any aspect of a build to LVVTA specifications. Bumper, moulding and trim repairs, fabrication work, panel-beating and rust repairs, paint touch-ups through to full resprays, mechanical repairs and upholstery work are just a taste of the many vehicle-restoration services that the team can take in its stride.
Steve, Sharon, and the team at Rustorations have earned an excellent reputation for their quality work over the years, with many customers claiming that their cars rolled out of Rustorations, after a full restoration, better than the day they rolled off the production line. Looking at the thoroughness and quality of their work, regardless of whether it’s a little fix or a big job, it’s not hard to agree.
