The team at Restorations Unlimited in Whanganui have certainly been busy restoring this Karmann Ghia.

The car arrived at their workshop in September 2014 in something of a sad state and requiring a full restoration. Unfortunately, the dreaded tin worm had well and truly taken hold and, when the body was eventually removed from the floorpan, a special frame needed to be constructed in order to support the Karmann-built body.

So far, the entire floor and, in fact, almost all of the body has been replaced with new, aftermarket or specially fabricated panels and work on the shell is nearing completion in preparation for painting.

The VW’S engine has also been completely rebuilt to original specifications along with the gearbox, steering system and brakes. The dash assembly is currently the focus of attention before a complete new wiring loom, trim and interior is installed.

The owner is still undecided on the final colour scheme but rest assured, this Karmann Ghia is bound to be an eye-catching machine when completed.
