Morris Minor Million
Many months ago, following on from the Morris 1000 owned by Bruce Hatrick and featured in NZ Classiccar, John Twaddle wrote to us about the limited edition Morris Minor ‘Million’ that he’d imported. Because of the car’s severely rusted state as purchased, the subsequent restoration project took almost three years and the Morrie has now reached a stage where it is roadworthy.
The car was discovered in Ireland, where it was advertised as being in concours condition — sadly, this was not the case and the restoration process proved to be both frustrating and time consuming.
However, John was able to drive the car down to the recent Morris Minor Convention at Trentham Racecourse, where it won two awards including the Best Two-door Morris Minor. Considering the vehicle was only made fit to travel a week before the event, that was a pleasing result.
It may be of some interest to note that on Saturday March 7, the one-millionth Morris Minor was sold at auction in Britain at Brooklands Historic for the equivalent of NZ$56,000 — an amazing price for a Morrie.
