This is planned to be a significant event in each island, recreating our history and touring many of the iconic rally roads of the past. With visits to the small communities that hosted past events and end of day displays, the emphasis will be on camaraderie, with plenty of time to catch up, tell lies and recall days past, and to rekindle old and new friendships made over five decades of rallying. It is expected that the tour will appeal not only to past competitors, but also organisers, teams, officials and support people who don’t usually get to see and drive on the roads. Although the event is in early planning stages, it is being supported by Motorsport New Zealand. At this stage, the North Island leg of the event will most likely start in Wellington, taking six or seven days and finishing at the International Rally of Whangarei on the Friday. For the South Island leg, Picton is the expected start point, again taking six or seven days and ending up at Rally Otago. Event organizers include: Rod Peat (Chairman), Dennis Green, John Coker, Rob Scott, Paul Smith, Jill Greenland, Anita Greenland and Murray O’donnell.
