aving run through several editions from 1998 to 2006, the author’s previous book — Mazdamiata: Thefullstoryoftheworld’sfavourite Sportscar — has been out of print for some time. It is regarded by many as the definitive history of Mazda’s revivalist sports car, and Long’s latest entry is, effectively, a revised and updated version of that previous book. However, the focus has been narrowed down to include only the original MX5 — the MKI or NA Series cars produced between 1988 and 1997.

If you already have a copy of the earlier book, you probably don’t need to add this one to your collection, as it is simply a refreshed version — although the singlevolume layout has allowed more space for the, mostly, factorysupplied images to be better presented. Otherwise there are very

few major alterations. However, as the MX5 remains in production there are, no doubt, many new owners who have never seen Long’s first book — so this latest edition is aimed directly at the latejoining enthusiasts of the popular two-seater sports car, or those who may have missed out the first time around. For those, this fresh edition is packed with just about everything they’ll need to know about the MX5, from the car’s early concept and development history right up to full details on the myriad of specialedition models, and the aftermarket kits available.

Plus, of course, complete yearby-year production numbers.

Hopefully, Veloce and Long will also get around to producing single volumes on the later NB and NC models.
