Know­ing that past his­tory is im­por­tant, he tracked down Andy Cameron, a well­known pan­el­beater from Tau­marunui, find­ing out that he’d been in­stru­men­tal in restor­ing the Daim­ler. Though they never met face-to-face, Wayne found Andy great to talk to, and ex­tremely oblig­ing when it came to send­ing many pho­tos of his work on the Daim­ler, this be­com­ing part of Wayne’s jour­ney and his love of cars and the en­joy­ment they bring.

He learned that the restora­tion on the Daim­ler be­gan in 1999 af­ter it had been dis­cov­ered parked un­der a tree, caked in bird drop­pings. A com­plete re­build com­menced with the re­moval of the mo­tor, plus the en­tire in­te­rior in­clud­ing side pan­els, seats, hood lin­ing
