NEW ZEALAND CLASSIC CAR MOTORSPORT FLASHBACK
If you ever wanted to know what unbridled pride looks like, you only had to check out David Oxton in the pits at Hampton Downs, as his son Richard brought the Trass Family Motorsport Ferrari 458 to a halt after finishing a highly credible fourth in his sports-car-racing debut in the recent Mahindra One-hour race.
Until then Richard had been plugging away in the phenomenally successful BMW E30 series — either at or near the front — but the Ferrari offered a four-fold increase in power. However, the 29-year-old handled it with aplomb.
As you can imagine, David was delighted — not in a ‘hey, that’s my boy’ kind of way, but rather with the quiet satisfaction of knowing that it had been a job well done, as only an ex-racer of Dave’s calibre would know.
The Trass Ferrari equipe warrants a more in-depth study at another time, but for those of us who always hoped we’d see David racing a Ferrari, seeing his lad doing well was pretty special. Forza Oxo!
