De­pend­ing on make, model and more specif­i­cally mar­que, parts can be ei­ther eas­ily ob­tain­able as re­pro­duc­tion or more sought-af­ter NOS, or vir­tu­ally im­pos­si­ble to source — in the lat­ter case that usu­ally means they’ll be hor­ren­dously ex­pen­sive.

Added to that ex­pense is the ac­tual cost of pay­ing some­one else, usu­ally a spe­cial­ist in their field, to carry out the re­quired main­te­nance work, and as we all know, that can in­clude any­thing from a sim­ple tune-up to a ma­jor re­build and ev­ery­thing in-be­tween.
