Editors’ PICKEACH Bugatti Type 57 Gangloff Roadster T

New Zealand Classic Car - - Editors' Pick -

he Bugatti Type 57 is, almost unequivocally, one of the most revered models in the entire history of the automobile. The cuttingedge engineering (for the time) in all aspects of its chassis, suspension, engine, and driveline allowed for unparalleled levels of performance and on-road refinement — all matched perfectly to the car’s flowing lines. Those lines were the handiwork of Ettore Bugatti’s son, Jean, whose skills were more than a match for the best coachbuilders Europe had to offer. However, amongst those coachbuilders, Gangloff is one whose name and reputation have weathered the test of time. The example you see here is a truly amazing piece of machinery — a Gangloff designed and built Type 57 that is believed to be its one and only roadster, carrying the chassis number #57217. This special car was owned by the Bob Turnbull, who sadly passed away in 2012. Before that happened, Bob entrusted the partially completed Bugatti — along with two of his other classic vehicles — to his close friend, Pete Brabant, with instructions to complete the restoration. That restoration was completed to a concours level in February 2015. This unique and jaw-droppingly gorgeous piece of motoring history now finds itself on the market, with proceeds from the eventual sale being donated to Bob’s own charitable trust, of which Pete is also trustee. The car has a VIN, has been registered and warranted, is completely road legal, and is finished to an unparalleled standard. Confidential enquiries are welcomed from seriously interested parties only. Contact Peter at the Bob Turnbull Trust, ph. 027 462 1480, if you are genuinely interested.
