NEW ZEALAND CLASSIC CAR BEHIND THE GARAGE DOOR Surgical procedures No. 1: Bambina
Once again, we take a peek at a handful of your ongoing classic-car restoration projects
Our good friends at The Surgery have kindly sent us details of a few restoration projects that are currently underway in their workshop.
The first is a cute little Fiat Bambina, and The Surgery’s team has been working closely with the Bambina owner, who is carrying out all the mechanical work and the reassembly himself.
The Surgery has already carried out all the metalwork, bodywork, paintwork, and rust proofing on the Fiat up to a show-car finish — with the client brief being unequivocal that the work should be “done once and done right”.
This is a project where the client is expecting an end result that will see the car emerge from The Surgery in as good a condition as when it rolled out of the factory. However, the Bambina will not live the life of a show pony, as the owner intends to use the car regularly, rather than confine it to the home garage. The Fiat is expected to remain in the client’s family for the long haul.
