Collection to go under the hammer
Everyone has their own reasons for loving what they do. For one young boy growing up in Thailand, that love would be for old British and European motor cars. Orr Boon’s passion for these vehicles grew from his father’s work. Mr Boon worked for the British Consul in Thailand and would often bring the cars home with him.
Being exposed to such vehicles at an impressionable age, and getting up close and personal with them as he helped his father to clean them on weekends, Orr was destined from the beginning to reserve a special place in his heart for them. This held true, and, when he moved to New Zealand 20-odd years ago, he began buying old and abandoned cars with the intention of restoring them to their former glory.
Unfortunately, the clock that doesn’t stop ticking has come to the party, and Orr now finds himself with too many cars and not enough time to see his plans to fruition. As a true enthusiast of these cars, though, he wishes to sell them off to like-minded people who will appreciate their beauty and restore them as he would have.
As such, more than 120 vehicles are due to go under the hammer at the Car Collectors Clearout auction hosted by Alastair Beer Auctions. The line-up includes such makes as Jaguar, Mini, Daimler, Volkswagen, BMW, Morris, Triumph, Rover, Riley, Austin, Hillman, Volvo, Fiat, and Mercedes Benz, as well as including a few Japanese models, a Studebaker, and a Corvette.
The auction will be held on Ranby Road, Ohaupo, Waikato, on Saturday, November 7, at 10am. Viewing is from Friday, November 6, between 1pm and 4pm, or from 8.30am on the day of sale. A full list of vehicles and photographs will be made available at abauctions.co.nz closer to the sale date.
