Oc­to­ber 23–25: Mo­tor­clas­sica, Aus­tralia

Aus­tralia’s premier ex­hi­bi­tion of rare and ex­otic, her­itage, vin­tage, clas­sic, and col­lectable cars and mo­tor­cy­cles, will be held at Mel­bourne’s Royal Ex­hi­bi­tion Build­ing from Oc­to­ber 23 to 25. Fea­tur­ing more than 100 cars and 50 mo­tor­cy­cles, with a fur­ther 200 each day over the week­end in the Club Sand­wich car dis­plays, Mo­tor­clas­sica will cel­e­brate 50 years of su­per­cars, 50 years of the Dino, 70 years of MV Agusta, and 50 years of Bu­gatti Club Aus­tralia. An­nual favourites will re­turn, in­clud­ing Tour Clas­sica, the Aus­tralian Concours d’el­e­gance, and the Col­lec­tor Car and Mem­o­ra­bilia Auc­tion con­ducted by Theodore Bruce. Novem­ber 1: Can­ter­bury All Bri­tish Day

This year’s event will be held on Sun­day, Novem­ber 1. It will be­gin at the Vin­tage Car Club grounds, Mcleans Is­land, where all ve­hi­cles should assem­ble be­tween 9.30am and 10.30am. There will be a run to a coun­try do­main. Any Bri­tish ve­hi­cle is wel­come to take part, in­clud­ing mo­tor­cy­cles, with all pro­ceeds go­ing to the Van Asch Deaf Education Cen­tre.

As al­ways, the event starts with en­trants meet­ing at the Fell Lo­co­mo­tive Mu­seum in Feather­ston at 11am for an 11.30 de­par­ture to Lake Ferry, where par­tic­i­pants can talk over a pic­nic lunch or stroll across to the Lake Ferry Ho­tel for a pub meal. The driv­ers’ briefing will take place at 11.20am by the big oak tree out­side the mu­seum. As well as clas­sic Sun­beams, or­ga­niz­ers wel­come all other car-club mem­bers on the day — and, in­deed, also peo­ple who don’t be­long to a car club. The day is all about driv­ing clas­sic cars and meet­ing and talk­ing to fel­low en­thu­si­asts — it isn’t about be­long­ing to a club. Vin­tage and Clas­sic Car Show; Cars of In­ter­est; Great Au­to­mo­tive Swap Meet — grow­ing ev­ery year. To be held at Western Springs Speed­way Sta­dium, the swap meet will start at 7.30am, with a car show at 10am. Prices: swap-meet sell-site, $15; adult en­try, $12; and chil­dren, $5. Fe­bru­ary 14: Bri­tish Car Day

Come and en­joy the 30th an­niver­sary of the Bri­tish Car Day at Tren­tham Me­mo­rial Park, Up­per Hutt, from 10am to 2pm. The Bri­tish Car Club wel­comes one and all to a nos­tal­gic day out to ad­mire Bri­tish ve­hi­cles from vin­tage to new, rang­ing from buses to trucks to sta­tion­ary en­gines. Clubs can com­pete for the club tro­phy, but you don’t need to be a mem­ber of a club to par­tic­i­pate and com­pete for the Peo­ple’s Choice tro­phy. Good food and coffee avail­able, plus a va­ri­ety of stalls. Cost is $5 per dis­play ve­hi­cle or a gold-coin do­na­tion to spec­tate. Prof­its will be do­nated to the Welling­ton Free Am­bu­lance. March 13: Wheels on Wind­sor

To be held at Wind­sor Park, Grove Road, Hast­ings, from 9am to 3pm. Come to beau­ti­ful sunny Hast­ings and en­joy a fine dis­play of clas­sic ve­hi­cles in park-like sur­round­ings. All tra­di­tional and mod­ern clas­sic ve­hi­cles wel­come, in­clud­ing Bri­tish, Euro­pean, Aus­tralian, Ja­panese, Amer­i­can, mil­i­tary ve­hi­cles, and clas­sic mo­tor­bikes. Food and coffee will be avail­able at the venue, as well as en­ter­tain­ment for the kids. Spot prizes ga­lore to be won all day, with cat­e­gory prize­giv­ing at 2.30pm. Price: $5 en­try for dis­play ve­hi­cles, pub­lic en­try by gold coin, ben­e­fit­ing the Brain In­jury As­so­ci­a­tion (HB) Inc. On Satur­day, March 12 — the day be­fore the event — there will be a tour through Fara­day Cen­tre tech­nol­ogy mu­seum in Napier, leav­ing from Wind­sor Park at 2pm, with a cost of $7 per head. March 20: Twin Rivers Mo­tor­ing Ex­trav­a­ganza

Or­ga­nized by the Ro­tary Club of Avon­head, this event will be held at the A&P Show­grounds, Curletts Road, Christchurch. This event is now a pop­u­lar Christchurch event, pro­vid­ing all car clubs and all own­ers with the op­por­tu­nity to dis­play their ve­hi­cles on the grass fields of the show­grounds. All makes, mod­els, types, styles, and ages are wel­come, with an en­try fee of $15 — if it has wheels, bring it. Af­ter much thought, it has been de­cided that a pa­rade will be in­cor­po­rated as an op­tional fea­ture; it was not held last year but pop­u­lar de­mand has seen it re­in­stated. Des­ig­nated ar­eas can be set aside for car clubs and spe­cial groups. Make this an auto ex­trav­a­ganza and a fam­ily day at a very at­trac­tive and spa­cious venue.
