October 23–25: Motorclassica, Australia
Australia’s premier exhibition of rare and exotic, heritage, vintage, classic, and collectable cars and motorcycles, will be held at Melbourne’s Royal Exhibition Building from October 23 to 25. Featuring more than 100 cars and 50 motorcycles, with a further 200 each day over the weekend in the Club Sandwich car displays, Motorclassica will celebrate 50 years of supercars, 50 years of the Dino, 70 years of MV Agusta, and 50 years of Bugatti Club Australia. Annual favourites will return, including Tour Classica, the Australian Concours d’elegance, and the Collector Car and Memorabilia Auction conducted by Theodore Bruce. Visit motorclassica.com.au.
November 1: Canterbury All British Day
This year’s event will be held on Sunday, November 1. It will begin at the Vintage Car Club grounds, Mcleans Island, where all vehicles should assemble between 9.30am and 10.30am. There will be a run to a country domain. Any British vehicle is welcome to take part, including motorcycles, with all proceeds going to the Van Asch Deaf Education Centre.

Organized by the Bay of Plenty Mustang Club, this event will be held at Wharepai Domain, corner of Cameron Road and Hamilton Street, Tauranga or at the Spring Street car park if the weather is wet. The course is an exciting and testing piece of, now redundant, State Highway 1, and features both uphill and downhill sections. The venue is 90 minutes north of Christchurch. As always, the event starts with entrants meeting at the Fell Locomotive Museum in Featherston at 11am for an 11.30 departure to Lake Ferry, where participants can talk over a picnic lunch or stroll across to the Lake Ferry Hotel for a pub meal. The drivers’ briefing will take place at 11.20am by the big oak tree outside the museum. As well as classic Sunbeams, organizers welcome all other car-club members on the day — and, indeed, also people who don’t belong to a car club. The day is all about driving classic cars and meeting and talking to fellow enthusiasts — it isn’t about belonging to a club. In the past, the event has been attended by English, American, Italian, and French cars clubs. February 7: Galaxy of Cars and Swap Meet
Vintage and Classic Car Show; Cars of Interest; Great Automotive Swap Meet — growing every year. To be held at Western Springs Speedway Stadium, the swap meet will start at 7.30am, with a car show at 10am. Prices: swap-meet sell-site, $15; adult entry, $12; and children, $5. February 14: British Car Day
Come and enjoy the 30th anniversary of the British Car Day at Trentham Memorial Park, Upper Hutt, from 10am to 2pm. The British Car Club welcomes one and all to a nostalgic day out to admire British vehicles from vintage to new, ranging from buses to trucks to stationary engines. Clubs can compete for the club trophy, but you don’t need to be a member of a club to participate and compete for the People’s Choice trophy. Good food and coffee available, plus a variety of stalls. Cost is $5 per display vehicle or a gold-coin donation to spectate. Profits will be donated to the Wellington Free Ambulance. Entry will be via the Barton Road entrance. March 13: Wheels on Windsor
To be held at Windsor Park, Grove Road, Hastings, from 9am to 3pm. Come to beautiful sunny Hastings and enjoy a fine display of classic vehicles in park-like surroundings. All traditional and modern classic vehicles welcome, including British, European, Australian, Japanese, American, military vehicles, and classic motorbikes. Food and coffee will be available at the venue, as well as entertainment for the kids. Spot prizes galore to be won all day, with category prizegiving at 2.30pm. Price: $5 entry for display vehicles, public entry by gold coin, benefiting the Brain Injury Association (HB) Inc. On Saturday, March 12 — the day before the event — there will be a tour through Faraday Centre technology museum in Napier, leaving from Windsor Park at 2pm, with a cost of $7 per head. March 20: Twin Rivers Motoring Extravaganza
Organized by the Rotary Club of Avonhead, this event will be held at the A&P Showgrounds, Curletts Road, Christchurch. This event is now a popular Christchurch event, providing all car clubs and all owners with the opportunity to display their vehicles on the grass fields of the showgrounds. All makes, models, types, styles, and ages are welcome, with an entry fee of $15 — if it has wheels, bring it. After much thought, it has been decided that a parade will be incorporated as an optional feature; it was not held last year but popular demand has seen it reinstated. Designated areas can be set aside for car clubs and special groups. Make this an auto extravaganza and a family day at a very attractive and spacious venue.
