SPECIAL FEATURE 1977 HOLDEN TORANA LX SS
Craig Pilet / Lincoln Jones
Craig Pilet returns for the South Island Targa in his 5.7-litre (350ci) small-block Chev-powered Torana, with trusty co-driver Lincoln Jones in the passenger seat. Craig’s approach to the car has been to keep everything as simple as possible, which allows the service crew of Kesty Manning and Richard Murray to work on the car without requiring specialist equipment. The Torana’s engine is relatively stock, other than Air Flow Research (AFR) heads, cam-shaft and valvetrain upgrades, a Braswell carburettor, and custom headers. Ian Coleman of Coleman Marine & Performance built the engine, and mechanic Bruce Chisholm of Rivercity Service Centre helped prepare the car for Targa. Though past Targa events have thrown a few issues into the mix, Craig’s always been able to finish, thanks to the commitment of his team. With the Torana all ready to go, Craig would like to thank his sponsors Silawrap and Pioneer Brand Seeds.
