Spitfires at Le Mans

Given Porsche’s recent success at Le Mans, and the historical prestige in terms of brand success at the race, you’d be forgiven for thinking Circuit de la Sarthe is the exclusive stomping ground of upper-class marques. That would not be quite correct, however, as Triumph — of all manufacturers — has also enjoyed a period of Le Mans success in the’60s, thanks to their high-performance works Spitfires. We have the background information on these giant-killing little sports cars, along with Le Mans 1965 footage, on themotorhood.com. Have a look — it may come in handy at the next pub quiz.

Super GT slant-nose Porsche 911

Take a look at this spotlight feature of an incredible Stuttgart racer. Alastair Russell owns this RSR replica slant-nose Porsche 911, and had taken it to Hampton Downs to give the old girl some shakedown laps in preparation for January’s NZFMR Porsche Festival. Jump onto themotorhood.com and search ‘slant-nose Porsche 911’ to get a closer look at this beautiful ex– Super GT racer that’s still being driven the way it was built to.

Mike Lowe’s new Targa Abarth

If you have followed the Targa events in any capacity, you’ll likely be familiar with the name ‘Mike Lowe’ — famous for consecutively campaigning his little Fiat 500 Abarth for the last 20 years. For 2015, though, ‘Barty’ — as the 1964 Abarth was fondly nicknamed — has been retired, and Mike has begun to race ‘Barty 2’, a latemodel Abarth Assetto Corse works race car. Take a closer look by searching ‘Weekly Motor Fix’.
