This message is for all of you, but especially Gordon Campbell, who wrote the 2015 article about New Zealand racer Andy Buchanan. I recently purchased a Fly of Spain electric slot car in 1:32 scale of a Ferrari 250/275 LM driven by Andy and Jackie Stewart. I have known Jackie for darn near 40 years; I was at Watkins Glen for his last race and took the last photo ever of his Tyrrell as it was being covered over with a tarp (being retired) prior to the official announcement that the team was withdrawing. Anyway, I’m going to send the small acrylic- top to the model to Sir Jackie to autograph, it will then go into my collection, which is undoubtedly world class (all the former racers over here marvel at it — 350 books, all signed; probably 75 signed models — most slot cars, etc.). In it, I have a Ford MKIV from the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1967 signed by the late Frank Gardner, a wonderful friend to me, plus his co-driver Hughes de Fierlant of Belgium. Chris Amon has also signed some items for me — a super guy. Needless to say, I would be honoured if Andy Buchanan would autograph this acrylictop for me before I then send it to Jackie. Jackie will be most pleased that I was able to contact Andy. Could you ask author Gordon Campbell if he’d assist me in getting a proper address for Mr Buchanan? (It was a great, comprehensive article, by the way.) I would certainly be indebted.
I have always been very fond of drivers from down under, and particularly loved the great and good Bruce Mclaren.
I lived in Richmond, Virginia, where Reynolds Aluminum was headquartered. Back around 1972, it helped me get hold of Team Mclaren, which then forwarded autographed photos of both Denis Hulme and Peter Revson. All that truly started my love affair with racing. The late Sir Jack Brabham always graciously signed my books relating to his career, and he’s certainly missed.
Feel free to give Andy my email address, and I’d love to hear from him at his convenience. Major William Brown, US Army (retired) Bedford, Virginia, US We would definitely be interested in seeing a few photos of your amazing collection to share with our readers. I have emailed Andy Buchanan’s contact details to you. AFW
