Tom Ryan Cartage Limited tomryan.co.nz

Last year’s main and the previous South Island event were this team’s only Targas, with Bruce — the driver — racking up his years as a keen gravel-rally man, and watching Targa from the sidelines for the better part of 15 years. Unfortunately, during one of the early stages of last year’s main event they were collected from behind after finding themselves in an off-road excursion, and the car was badly damaged. However, instead of going home to lick their wounds, they quickly got back to it and claimed second overall in Classic 2WD.

Their BMW 325i is only mildly modified, but with excellent preparation by Nelson’s Alltrax NZ race and rally fabricator, it has performed faultlessly throughout the two events.

ew to Targa, Rob Anderson and Chrissi Harkess entered their first Targa Tour after receiving an invitation to push the limits of their 2015 Lamborghini Huracán. The pair are avid motorbike riders, with Rob dabbling in Formula 1 and Formula 2 superbike racing back in the day. In preparation for their tin-top debut they put in a fair amount of practice at local tracks, and picked up a few tricks through Downforce driver training. The car itself is a stock example, and in typical Lamborghini fashion is track inspired, making it an excellent choice for the tour straight out of the showroom. Of course it will come as no surprise that like many of our readers, Rob has always wanted to own a Lamborghini, and the Huracán is the pair’s second after previously owning a Gallardo. Chrissi told us that they have always enjoyed the thrill of driving fast, covering most of the country’s roads atop a two-wheel rocket, and last year they made the trip over to Spain to drive the new Aventador Superveloce at Barcelona’s Circuit de Catalunya.
