Rick Finucane / Derek White
ick Finucane’s love of motor sport started as a kid, when he took a keen interest in all things car-, boat- and motorcycle related. He didn’t actually get involved until the late ’80s, but since then it’s been non-stop. Over the years Rick has crewed, co-driven and driven on numerous rally teams, and for many years was a speedway saloon driver. After falling out of love with speedway in the early ’00s, Rick sold up and bought his current Toyota MR2, with the intention of turning it into a tarmac rally car. Naturally this was accomplished promptly, and he now regularly competes in Targa NZ. In his first Bambina and Rotorua events, he managed mid-pack finishes, but was not far off the class podium. With co-driver Derek White alongside, the pair hope to lay down a quality display of driving at the main event this year. The team is supported by Evan and Hes at Tradezone Pukekohe, Top Tul NZ, and Bay Milking Equipment Ltd Whakatane.

The Queenstown-based husband-and-wife pairing of Jeff Mccandless and Marcella Mumm is set to compete in their third main Targa event, campaigning the 2010 WRX STI. Originally built by Les Walkden Rallying in Tasmania, the Subaru has recently undergone a series of upgrades, and is now prepared and run by Ricky Grey at Mach One Engineering. The team claimed second for Index of Performance 4WD All Comers at the 2015 Bambina event, and hopes to give the Fastest Husband and Wife Team prize a nudge this time around.
The team say they are proud to run under the colours of Switzers Valley Transport — the Southland-based livestock, general cartage, sowing and inter-island stock transport specialist — and Hamilton-based Tyrone Packaging, providing nationwide distribution of premium packaging equipment, machinery and consumables. They are also supported by Gore Beaurepaires.
