’tis the season

New Zealand Classic Car - - Editorial - Ashley Webb Editor

By the time you open these pages, Christmas will quite literally be just around the corner. As always, the lead-up can be a stressful time for everyone. Leaving everything to the last minute seems to be the norm — well, for most of us, anyway — despite our best intentions not to make the same mistake again the following year. As our minds clog up with last-minute work details, what Christmas presents to buy, Christmas and holiday plans, not to mention atrocious traffic build-ups, it’s probably not a bad idea to take a moment or two to take a deep breath, relax, and thumb through the pages of this magazine.

It’s probably fair to say that most, if not all, Kiwis have a soft spot for early Holdens. After all, most of us grew up knowing someone who owned a Holden, if there wasn’t at least one in the family. These reliable Aussie machines are very much a part of our Kiwi motoring heritage, spanning generations of families dedicated to the brand, who all have happy memories of the Aussie companion that’s accompanied so many of us on family holidays, outings, and weddings; helped us out towing the boat; or been great fun just to cruise around in.

As for me, while I thoroughly relish the challenge of putting this magazine together every month, I’m looking forward to taking a few weeks off at Christmas to escape the deadlines and recharge the batteries. This year, my wife and I are off on a Pacific cruise — something we’ve never done before, so we’re really looking forward to the new experience.

Finally, I would like to wish all our loyal readers, advertisers, and contributors a merry Christmas and happy New Year. Drive safely over the holiday season, and we look forward to seeing you next year.
