READERS’ WRITES

New Zealand Classic Car - - Contents - Bob Hilditch

Having returned to Australia after a visit to attend the Kenny Smith tribute meeting at Hampton Downs, I sat down to read your latest publication and was intrigued to read Donn Anderson’s reply with regard to a Mini Cooper. He referred to Mini Cooper– spinning guests Paddy Hopkirk and Timo Mäkinen at the 1965 Wills Six Hour production meeting.

I thought you might like this picture of them taken in 1965. I subsequently bought the grey car (DA8464), which I used as my road car. My race car was EX6448, which was the car that Kenny and Morrie Smith raced in the 1966 Wills Three Hour Group 2 event (they finished seventh), which can be seen in Kenny’s book, The Kenny Smith Scrapbook, by Michael Clark. I would like to know if this car still exists!

The other photograph is EX6448 on the grid at Pukekohe in 1966. Standing in the background are, I think, Doc Langley, Andy Buchanan, and Brian Innis.

Great photographs, Bob — thanks for sharing. AFW
