SIDE-OILER AND TOP-OILER

-

Although there’s plenty of prestige in owning a sideoiler, there’s not necessarily a lot of difference between the side-oiler and top-oiler 7.0-litre (427ci) engines. Hugh’s top-oiler is a 1966 block casting, identical to the side-oilers, and comes complete with the screw-in frost plugs and the mouldings of the side-oiler. Reportedly, the side-oilers were then drilled and tapped on the production line. So, while the engine in the car is currently a top-oiler, that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be changed if Hugh desired.
