This Ford Cortina MKI two-door is currently receiving a full groundup restoration at R3 Fabrications in Auckland. Greg Wells and his team completely stripped the car apart before the body was acid dipped, and have since fitted new inner and outer sills as well as B-pillars with upgraded seatbelt pickup points. Many other new and second-hand panels sourced locally and from the UK have also been fitted.
The main focus to date has been to remove all the seam rust and carry out solid repairs to form a strong platform for the owner’s future plans.
The next phase will be to complete the fit-up and choose an appropriate engine and gearbox package. At this stage, the owner is uncertain about retaining the original engine and may opt for a Japanese drivetrain.
