The Mercedes-benz G-profession­al cab/ chassis is now available in New Zealand, built at the same facility as the renowned G-class off-roader, and leveraging the decades of continuous improvemen­t of the mighty “G-wagen’s” off-road capability. The G-profession­al cab/chassis sets a new benchmark for carrying ability with a 2,085kg payload (4,490 kg GVM) without a tray. The “G-pro” will reach more places with the help of a reinforced chassis and suspension achieving 245 mm ground clearance; three differenti­al locks that can be shifted to low-range on the move; 650 mm fording depth and adjustable engine speed control. External features fitted as standard include a snorkel; bull bar, headlight and indicator protection painted in black; radiator and sump shields; 16-inch alloy wheels and all-terrain tyres. A walk-on bonnet featuring reinforcem­ent (load limit 100kg) and a non-slip coating is available, as is a cyclonic air filter that is designed to separate dirt and dust from the air before entering the traditiona­l panel air filter under the bonnet. Designed for drivers working in dry, dusty conditions, it includes a replacemen­t snorkel and clear Perspex case for visual inspection of dust build-up. Fitted with permanent four-wheeldrive with a 50:50 front-rear split, the G-profession­al has a recommende­d maximum fording depth of 650mm; an approach angle of 38 deg., departure angle of 35 deg., and a break-over point of 22 deg. Recommende­d towing capacity is 2,210kg (braked) and 750kg (unbraked), and a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 4,490kg. The fuel tank has a 96-litre capacity, two 12-volt batteries are fitted, as well as a tyre pressure loss warning system. A spare wheel is supplied (loose) plus two wheel chocks. No tray is supplied at the time of sale. Inside, the G-profession­al offers extreme durability and practicali­ty with hardwearin­g vinyl seat covers, two water-drain plugs rubber floor mats, storage boxes under both seats, air-conditioni­ng, armrests for both driver and passenger, and a lockable glovebox. The three-litre V6 turbo diesel engine produces 135kw at 3,800rpm and 400Nm from 1,600 to 2,000 rpm, sending its power via a five-speed automatic transmissi­on. The G-profession­al Cab Chassis is fitted with an Electronic Stability Program (ESP with selectable on/off function, anti-lock braking system (ABS), Brake. Assist (BAS), and electronic brake force distributi­on (EBD). Occupants of the two-seater cab are protected by a driver’s and passenger airbag, and security is taken care of by an electronic immobilise­r and central locking. Price:$129,900.
